Digital Landcare

Around the world thousands of Landcarers are contributing their time and resources to making the world a more sustainable place.
Digital Landcare is a network for Landcarers to share their natural resource management (NRM) experiences through digital stories and other media.

Landcare Queensland are working with the community cultural development company and social enterprise, Feral Arts to promote the use of PlaceStories to the landcare community in Queensland, as a means of communicating NRM knowledge and sharing stories about the land.

PlaceStories (http://ps3beta.com) is a map–based digital storytelling software system being developed by Feral Arts. The system supports a wide range of community-focused communications and storytelling projects in Australia & the United States.

Members can create and publish their own stories direct to the PlaceStories map. They can create their own PlaceStories projects or join one of the growing number of pubic storytelling communities.

A new system PlaceStories 3.0 is in the final stages of beta testing – check it out!

Junior Landcare

Junior Landcare is about encouraging young people to play an active role in ensuring the safe future of their environment, encouraging youth to develop a sense of responsibility for our natural resources.

To support youth involvement in landcare, Landcare Queensland have developed a Junior Landcare activity program. Aimed at upper primary school the Junior Landcare activity program allows students the opportunity to participate in an environmental activity day, and experience the environment in a out of classroom setting, an opportunity they may not usually have access to.

With the support of ENERGEX, Landcare Queensland will pilot the Junior Landcare activity program in South East Queensland during 2009. It is Landcare Queensland’s hope to both continue the program in South East Queensland and extend the project across Queensland with the support of new partners.

As well as the Junior landcare activity day program Landcare Queensland has compiled a host of materials which can be used to connect landcare type activities to school curriculum, these can be accessed on our resources page. If your school or youth group would like to find out more about Junior Landcare and how you might become involved please contact Landcare Queensland.
