Landcare PlaceStories
Landcare Queensland in partnership with community cultural development and media organisation, Feral Arts has developed Landcare PlaceStories to support communication and collaboration in natural resource management across Queensland.

Landcare PlaceStories, as short digital stories, allows users to create and document on-line stories which showcase how they have made a difference to natural resource management. The aim is to build a system that provides for the digital storytelling and online communication needs of the landcare and natural resource management network of Queensland. The development of the Landcare PlaceStories system has been supported through the Australian Government’s previous natural resource management program, the National Landcare Program.

Feral Arts have developed a workshop style training program which comprehensively teaches users how to prepare digital stories and use Landcare PlaceStories as an online communication system. Over the past eighteen months Landcare Queensland and Feral Arts have been able to provide this training to the landcare community free of charge with thanks to the support of various funding programs including; the Department of Environment and Resource Management’s Community Awareness Grants Program, The Gambling Community Benefit Fund, BMA Community Partnerships Program, Q150 Community Funding Program and South East Queensland Catchments.

If you are interested in finding out more about Landcare PlaceStories or are interested in learning how to use PlaceStories contact Landcare Queensland to discuss training opportunities in your region.

Junior Landcare

Junior Landcare is about encouraging young people to play an active role in ensuring the safe future of their environment, encouraging youth to develop a sense of responsibility for our natural resources.

To support youth involvement in landcare, Landcare Queensland have developed a Junior Landcare activity program. Aimed at upper primary school the Junior Landcare activity program allows students the opportunity to participate in an environmental activity day, and experience the environment in a out of classroom setting, an opportunity they may not usually have access to.

With the support of ENERGEX, Landcare Queensland will pilot the Junior Landcare activity program in South East Queensland during 2009. It is Landcare Queensland’s hope to both continue the program in South East Queensland and extend the project across Queensland with the support of new partners.

As well as the Junior landcare activity day program Landcare Queensland has compiled a host of materials which can be used to connect landcare type activities to school curriculum, these can be accessed on our resources page. If your school or youth group would like to find out more about Junior Landcare and how you might become involved please contact Landcare Queensland.
