Landcare was born through an historic agreement between the National
Farmers Federation and the Australian Conservation Foundation in 1988.
Since that time, more than 300 Landcare Groups have been established in
Queensland. Landcare Group members come together on a voluntary
basis to work on issues such as:
- long term planning for farms;
- revegetating areas affected by salinity and erosion;
- educating young people about the land and sustainability;
- fencing off important bushland to protect from agricultural and recreational pressures;
- helping to repair and protect urban creeks
- sharing knowledge farmer to farmer;
- managing weeds and feral animals;
- helping developers manage the land sustainably; and
- working with governments to improve policies and legislation

How can you get involved?
Landcare Groups need help with all sorts of activities.
From office and administrative tasks, financial and legal work, GIS and
computer services, water quality and soil science, agriculture, media,
communication, grant writing and donations.
If you think you can spare a few hours a week, your local Landcare Group would love to hear from you.
