who is Landcare Queensland?

The formation of The Queensland Landcare Foundation (now know as Landcare Queensland Limited) was spearheaded by a number of long-time landcare support workers who saw the need for a Queensland based organisation equipped to encourage corporate sector and public investment in the future of Landcare in Queensland. The Queensland Landcare Foundation was launched in Townsville during the 2002 State Landcare Conference.

Landcare Queensland continues to develop partnerships to support the landcare community of Queensland and also provides essential support services to this network by providing relevant and up to date information and responding to community requests. Since its formation Landcare Queensland has facilitated the delivery of significant project funds to landcare groups in Queensland and continues to work towards the establishment of long-term strategic partnerships to support education, awareness and on-ground activities in Queensland.

Landcare Queensland’s board members hold much corporate knowledge about Landcare in Queensland and remain an essential link to both the community groups the organisation represents and the businesses and corporate partners supporting the landcare network.

what we do

The LANDCARE QUEENSLAND vision
Our vision is for a healthy and productive landscape where tourists and residents enjoy our rainforests, reefs and beaches; farmers enjoy productive, sustainable landscapes and vibrant rural towns; and our children can swim and fish in local creeks.

Our mission
To ensure vibrant towns and cities of the future, with clean air; healthy soils and landscapes; and clean and abundant water, we need to learn to live and work differently.  To really look after the environment, people need information, support and financial assistance to make the right choices.

Landcare Queensland provides training, resources and funding for more than 60,000 people involved in landcare throughout the state.

What do landcare groups do?
Landcare Groups are autonomous groups of people who get together to manage their local environment, using local solutions.  In Queensland there are more than 300 Landcare Groups.  These groups are working on projects such as:

  • facilitating neighbouring farmers to complete property plans;
  • bringing together Indigenous people to talk about caring for country and capturing traditional knowledge;
  • restocking creeks and rivers with native fish;
  • protecting and rebuilding habitat for endangered species such as the earless dragon; Mary River turtle; and bridled nail tail wallaby.
